About

POWERbreathe Smart Adaptor

The POWERbreathe Smart Adaptor enables digital integration of respiratory training when used with the POWERbreathe Plus (IMT) and EX1 (EMT) breathing trainers. By connecting to the ActiBreathe® App via Bluetooth, it allows for accurate respiratory strength assessments, structured training programs, and real-time progress tracking.

Developed with input from healthcare professionals, the Smart Adaptor provides objective performance metrics to support respiratory training and therapy, offering a practical tool for clinicians and therapists seeking measurable data on respiratory function and muscle strength.

Smart Adaptor Features:

  • Compatible with POWERbreathe Plus (IMT) and EX1 (EMT) devices
  • Syncs with the ActiBreathe® App via Bluetooth for real-time monitoring
  • Provides guided training programs for structured respiratory training
  • Tracks key breathing metrics to support performance evaluation
  • Offers visual progress tracking to encourage adherence to training.

    Product Uses

    • Respiratory Strength Assessment – Provides quantitative data on inspiratory and expiratory muscle function.
    • Rehabilitation Support – Assists in structured training programs for patients requiring targeted respiratory therapy.
    • Pulmonary Training – Aids in fitness programs where respiratory muscle function is a focus.
    • Clinical Monitoring – Enables tracking of training progress via the ActiBreathe® App for use in treatment planning.
    • Patient Engagement – Provides visual feedback and training insights to support adherence and compliance.

    News

    IMT at ANZICS

Professor Bernie Bissett recently hosted an Inspiratory Muscle Training Practical Session at the ANZICS annual conference. The session detailed Prof Bissett’s experience using IMT trainers for intensive care patients to increase their maximum inspiratory pressures following intubation. Prof Bissett has generously shared her presentation which details the use of POWERbreathe trainers to facilitate the IMT training for patients.

    IMT Webinar with Bernie Bissett

We’re also pleased to share this webinar from The Better Breathing Institute, featuring Professor Bernie Bissett and her work with POWERbreathe Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) devices.

In this session, Professor Bissett explores the role of IMT in critical care (before, during, and after an ICU stay) highlighting how it can strengthen breathing muscles, reduce time on ventilation, and support faster recovery.

    Covered in the session:

    • Pre-ICU patient preparation with IMT
    • Safe use of IMT during mechanical ventilation
    • Post-ICU recovery support
    • Practical tips for clinical implementation.

We hope you enjoy listening to this webinar as much as our BMedical team did.

    FAQs

The Smart Adaptor is compatible with the POWERbreathe Plus Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) series and the POWERbreathe EX1 Expiratory Muscle Training (EMT) series.

When paired with the ActiBreathe® App, the Smart Adaptor captures key respiratory performance metrics, including inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength, breathing endurance, and volume.

The Smart Adaptor connects via Bluetooth to the ActiBreathe® App, providing real-time performance tracking, guided training sessions, and historical data storage to support clinicians and performance specialists.

Yes. The Smart Adaptor provides objective respiratory metrics, making it a useful tool for clinicians, physiotherapists, and respiratory specialists to monitor breathing muscle training and progression.

The Smart Adaptor itself does not store data, but all training sessions are logged within the ActiBreathe® App, allowing users to review their historical training progress over time.

No, the Smart Adaptor does not alter the resistance settings of the IMT or EMT devices. It functions as a data-tracking and training tool, providing insights into breathing performance without modifying the mechanical resistance.

Clinicians can use the Smart Adaptor and ActiBreathe® App to track patient progress, assess inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength, and provide structured training programs to enhance adherence and outcomes.
