Hushd Temporary MAS Device & SleepCare App

Hushd

About

Mandibular Advancement Splints (MAS)  work by temporarily advancing the lower jaw and tongue forward. This can reduce throat constriction and open the airway while sleeping to prevent sleep apnoea and snoring.

The Hushd Mandibular Advancement Splint is a temporary and adjustable boil-and-bite device that allows users to trial a MAS solution prior to committing to a permanent device. Mandibular Advancement Splints are a CPAP alternative that work by moving the lower jaw forward during sleep to improve airway patency.

Hushd comes in two convenient sizes – Hushd, and Hushd Mini.

With the support of the SleepCare patient app the patient can access instructional videos, sleep hygiene tips and be connected to a local sleep dentist. On conclusion of a successful 30-day trial, the user is prompted to schedule an appointment with a local sleep dentist to transition to a permanent MAS device. Clinicians can track their patient’s progress through the ResDent Clinician Portal.

FAQs

How long does the device last?

Warranty is one month but the MAS device is expected to last three months.

How does a MAS work?

A MAS device advances the bottom jaw forward to open the airway and tighten the soft tissue, allowing for improved airflow.

Why try a temp MAS?

A permanent MAS device can be quite expensive (between $1500 and $2500). A temporary MAS gives patients an opportunity to trial a MAS device and determine if they can adjust to having something in their mouth before committing to a permanent MAS device.

What is the difference between this device and other temp MAS devices?
  • Its small profile means it will be similar to a permanent device. Permanent devices are significantly smaller than temporary devices and thus more comfortable.
  • Hushd offers a Mini option for people with smaller and narrower mouths which are not available in most competitor products
  • The Sleep Care App helps patients get set up with the product, tracks their progress and will connect them to a local sleep dentist at the end of the trial
  • The device is adjustable, ‘titratable’, so patients can protrude the bottom jaw forward more to resolve residual snoring or apnoea
  • Supported by a network of Local Sleep Dentists for troubleshooting and next steps
  • Sleep Clinics get a patient support credit on their BMedical account when a patient transitions on to the permanent device through the APP.
Does the user need to have teeth to use Hushd?

Yes, the user needs to have most of their own teeth (not dentures) to be successful with the Hushd MAS.

Which Size should I get?

Patients can use the sizing guide to determine what size they need. Many females and people with a smaller bite will use the Mini device.

How do patients set up the device?

This is a boil and bite device meaning patients will soak the device in hot/boiling water and bite to customise the fit.

Patients can watch the video within the app for instruction on how to set up the device.

What is the name of the APP?

The patient companion app is called SleepCare and is available on both Apple and Google Play

How do patients titrate the device?
  • Patients should adjust the bottom jaw forward to get rid of residual snoring or apnoea.
  • To titrate, locate the buttons on either side of the device, push the buttons, and use one hand to move the bottom arch forward one notch.
  • Patients should sleep 2-3 nights on the new setting before adjusting again.
  • They can watch the video within the app for instruction on how to adjust the device.
How do patients transition to a permanent device?
  • If all is going well, patients should consider transitioning to a permanent device between 14-45 days of trialing the temporary device.
  • The App will prompt patients through email and push notifications to consider transitioning, but they can do this at any point through the App by clicking the right hand menu and selecting what’s next – request an appointment and selecting a dentist that is local to them.
How much does the permanent device cost?

The Hushd Pro Permanent MAS costs $2190 before health insurance rebates.

What happens if I don't like it or it doesn't work?

The Hushd device offers a 30 day money back guarantee.

What local dentists are part of the Good Sleep Co network for permanent MAS?

An up-to-date list can be found within the SleepCare app by putting in your postcode and checking for dentists in your area.
