About

Grinding Guards (or occlusal splints) are popular treatments for sleep bruxism (teeth grinding). Guards cushion teeth from the force of clenching and prevent the teeth from grinding together to prevent headaches, damaged teeth, and inflamed gums.

The Hushd Guard is a temporary boil-and-bite Occlusal Splint Nightguard device that allows users to trial a bruxism solution prior to committing to a permanent device. Made from non-toxic silicone with cushioned bite-pads and a flexible band to ensure the splint is secure, the Hushd Guard protects from teeth clenching, grinding, and bruxism.

With the support of the SleepCare patient app the patient can access instructional videos, sleep hygiene tips and be connected to a local sleep dentist. On conclusion of a successful 30-day trial, the user is prompted to schedule an appointment with a local sleep dentist to transition to Hushd Pro Guard, a permanent, custom-fitted Occlusal Splint Nightguard device. Clinicians can track their patient’s progress through the ResDent Clinician Portal.

FAQs

How long does the device last?

Warranty is one month but it is expected to last about three months – dependent on the type and severity of teeth grinding.

How does a grind guard work?

Grind guards cushion teeth from the force of clenching and prevent the teeth from grinding together to prevent headaches, damaged teeth, and inflamed gums.

Why try a temp Grind Guard?

A permanent grind guard can be expensive. A temporary grind guard allows the patient an opportunity to trial a guard and decide if they can get used to having something in their mouth before committing to a permanent device.

What is the difference between this device and other temp grinding guards?
  • The grind guards have a small profile meaning it will be similar in size to a permanent device, and are a more comfortable alternative.
  • The SleepCare App helps patients get set up with the grind guard, track progress and connect to a local sleep dentist at the end of the trial

  • Supported by a network of Local Sleep Dentists for troubleshooting and next steps.

How do patients set up the device?

This is a boil and bite device meaning patients will soak the device in hot/boiling water and bite to customise the fit.

Patients can watch the video within the app for instruction on how to set up the device.

What is the name of the APP?

The patient companion app is called SleepCare and is available on both Apple and Google Play

How do patients transition to a permanent device?
  • If all is going well, patients should consider transitioning to a permanent device between 14-45 days of trialing the temporary device.
  • The App will prompt patients through email and push notifications to consider transitioning, but they can do this at any point through the App by clicking the right hand menu and selecting what’s next – request an appointment and selecting a dentist that is local to them.
What local dentists are part of the Good Sleep Co network for permanent MAS?

An up-to-date list can be found within the SleepCare app by putting in your postcode and checking for dentists in your area.

You can also find a list of dentists in this document.
